Secure Remote Connectivity
The purpose of this guide is to help technicians and engineers plan, build, and implement a fixed or mobile industrial VPN appliance within an Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS) network. In this particular solution guide, we will be using a HMS eWON Cosy 131 to build a VPN tunnel to remotely connect and access machines and equipment.
Instructions and examples will be based on an eWON (model # EC6133C), Talk2M Connection Checker, eBuddy, and eCatcher. This guide will navigate, configure, and explore the functionality of these hardware and software.
The eWON Cosy product line was developed as a cost effective solution to allow a secure remote VPN connection for end users, machine builders and OEMs to access a stand-alone device, equipment, skid, or an entire IACS network. This provides the ability to quickly and remotely troubleshoot a component or system failure, perform software patches or updates, and mitigate unscheduled downtime, thus reducing or even eliminating expenses for both the customers and field tech/engineers associated with traveling on site. The implementation of system is easy as following the startup wizard, and thus simplifying integration and reducing commissioning time.
