Power Monitoring Integration to Red Lion

The purpose of this guide is to help technicians and engineers plan and implement Eaton's Power Xpert Meters into a Red Lion Automation device. This includes the Graphite Series HMI, Edge Controllers, Data Station, etc,. Power and/or Quality Meters are normally install across a wide range of Power Distribution Systems. From Feeder, Transformer, Generator, Switchgear, MCC, and even some Panel board. Wherever they are installed, meters will provide critical information to help ensure that your plant or facility's daily operations are not disrupted. Additionally, companies are always searching for ways to reduce energy consumption, but manually logging data and interpenetrating data points can be tedious and consume valuable resources.

Real-time monitoring and data aggregation capabilities gives technicians and engineers an insight into a Power Distribution Systems, thus providing critical data pointing to potential failures and having the ability to schedule downtime for repairs and maximizing OEE.

With the vast amount of technology available, the process of selection does inherently become somewhat difficult, especially if you're new to this industry. There are numerous Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) from different manufacturers to choose from and some even utilizing their proprietary hardware and software. This becomes challenging if you have product A that can not pass data to product B. Luckily with so much competitions in the market, manufacturers are forced to develop their devices to meet stringent interoperability requirements. Their IED, automation controllers, or PLC MUST have a means to play nicely with the other guy's stuff or risk losing business. Users now, will no longer accept constraints and be locked into using say Brand A's Controller and Brand A's IED. It now becomes a matter of selecting a product to meet your application. In this guide, we are going to be using Modbus TCP as the communication Protocol. Most if not all manufacturer has a means to to communicate on Modbus TCP. Let's integrate the Power Xpert Meters in the Red Lion Controllers.
